Okanagan Trip hits double digits AT THE HOME OF THOSE F'N SPIDERS!!!!!

There aren't a ton of things that really creep me out. This is one of them.

And apparently these are quite common around the winery. Good reason to stay in the tasting room!

I'd go there more often if they had more of these instead.

But I digress.

Another reason to stay in the tasting room is that they have wine. Wine > Spiders every day of the week, even if the wine isn't very good. But this wine IS good, which is just one more reason to stay away from those damn spiders.

Black Widow 2016 Oasis ($22.00)

Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Schonberger.

Pleasant aromas of pears and tropical fruit. Slightly off-dry with tropical flavors mixing with some white flowers. Perfect with spicy cuisine or just a nice evening on the patio, which is where we were when we polished a bottle of this off last night.  89.

Black Widow 2016 Schonberger ($27.00)

Sweet white flowers come to the nose followed by intense notes of tropical fruit. Wonderful flavors of pear, peach and nectarine. This is the best of this varietal in the Okanagan, IMO, and it's just delicious. 90.

Black Widow 2016 Spiderling Red ($25.00)

Very light bodied, an unsophisticated "drink-me-now" red if you just don't like to wait to drink your Merlot! Jammy and fruity nose and palate. 86.

Black Widow 2015 Phobia ($28.00)

50% Syrah/50% Merlot

Notes of bell pepper, blackberry and spice on the nose. Flavors of black fruit, black pepper, raspberry and a touch of vanilla. 89.

We were in our local VQA store the other day and they were selling off the last bottle of this, which we picked up and enjoyed last week. Consider this a bonus review!

Black Widow 2014 Oasis ($22.00)

Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Schonberger.

Aromas of tropical fruit and Asian pear. Slightly off-dry with tropical flavors and the years in the bottle have made it slightly viscous. A nice pairing with Asian food, anything spicy, or just good company.  88.

These guys don't make any bad wine, and that Schonberger is really something special. Now if they'd just get rid of those damn spiders :)

Up next: Depends. Two more entries into the Okanagan trip report, but also have a ton of catching up on other stuff, including a wonderful night of food and wine from Australia as we continue with our "theme nights". Whatever is next will be good for sure...so stay tuned!!
